INVESTING IN CHINA'S FUTURE
Hong Kong-based Tri-State (Far East) Corporation has since its inception in 1972 focused on developing better trade and manufacturing relationships with China. Realizing early on this country's enormous growth potential, Tri-State and its parent, the Simmons Group of Companies, have committed substantial amounts of financial and human resources to establish and expand their facilities in the People's Republic of China. Today, Tri-State is employing over 2,500 people in its factories, retail outlets, and food production centers throughout China.
TRI-STATE ACTIVITIES IN CHINA
Our company was one of the first foreign firms to enter China in the late seventies. Since that time, our operation in China has provided sourcing and manufacturing services for our clients - among them many multinational companies and New York Stock Exchange listed organizations - in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
Sourcings
Tri-State sources a wide range of products for the export market. They include consumer as well as industrial products manufactured to our client's specifications. The company's largest sourcing operation centers on metal fabricated components, sub assemblies and finished products.Manufacturing processes range from sand casting to permanent mold casting, die casting, stamping, forging, etc. Malleable and grey iron, steel, aluminum, brass, bronze and bronze alloys are some of the materials used. The plumbing, heating, and air conditioning industries represent the single largest market for such products while other applications include, but are not limited to, the automotive, transportation, and flow control industries.
The toy/juvenile products sector constitutes the second largest component of Tri-State's sourcing activities followed by sourcing programs for a wide range of diverse industries, including general consumer goods, exercise equipment and consumer electronics.
Manufacturing
Toy Manufacturing
The company has established its own manufacturing base in Southern China. Tri-S Manufacturing (China) Ltd., founded in 1979, is a major O.E.M. contract manufacturer of soft toys, dolls, juvenile product, dress packs, plush, and rotocast items for the toy industry. It has two factories in Guangdong Province totalling 270,000 sq. ft. in manufacturing space with over 1600 sewing machines as well as rotocasting, spray painting, and hair rooting facilities.
Food Production
Its economic success in China encouraged Tri-State to establish its own food production subsidiary in Shanghai and Southern China in early 1993. Products from these facilities are distributed throughout China and Asia.
In Shanghai, Tri-State Foods (Shanghai) Ltd. prepares baked goods for the company's own retail outlets and coffee shops as well as independent outlets. The baked goods retail under our exclusive brand name Deborah. For 1994, the company is planning to expand its Shanghai operation to a total of 18 outlets and shops.
In Southern China, Tri-State operates food production facilities in Guangdong Province with a sales network covering most of the large Southern Chinese cities and Hong Kong.
Importing into China
More recently Tri-State has started an import program for major U.S. toy manufacturers. The company has successfully introduced its product range to four department stores in Shanghai which are already selling these products in their market.

Tri-State is confident that this is just the beginning of its investment and expansion in China. Having gained valuable expertise in the Chinese market over the years, the company is now looking at other ventures, discovering new opportunitities at every turn in the world's largest growth economy.
